Pinto Beans & Chili for Homemade Tex-Mex Burritos!

Tex Mex Chili Burrito Filling – Pinto Beans & Spicy Chili

This has to be one of my personal, all time favorite recipes… my grandmother’s homemade pinto beans and chili that she uses to fill her homemade flour tortillas for Tex-Mex burritos.  OMG!  My mouth is watering.  The best part is, I knew I was doing this blog today and it made me crave them, so that is what I cooked for dinner! YUMMY!  This is another dish of hers that I heartily requested anytime I visited and I am so thankful that I learned how to make them.  Tune in to the video below to see exactly how to prepare the delicious, Tex-Mex Chili Burritos!

Pinto Beans:

pinto+beans2  cups of beans
8 cups of water
5 strips of thick cut bacon
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 small serano pepper (minced)
1/4 small onion (chopped)
Salt & Pepper (to taste)

You can soak your beans for several hours to speed up the cooking process however I do not, I prefer the thick broth that not soaking them created.  Just rinse them before cooking and keep an eye on your water level.

Rinse beans and cover them with water.  Set heat on medium high.  Once they start to boil, add all other ingredients.  Again… watch your water levels!!!  Stir occasionally and turn down heat to medium to finish cooking.

Tex-Mex Chili:

homemade_chili2 lbs of lean, ground beef
1 clove of garlic (minced)
1/2 red onion (chopped)
1/2 yellow onion (chopped)
1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
2 alarm chili seasoning (or any other seasoning you prefer)
1/2 cup of water (a bit more if you prefer)
8 oz can of tomato sauce

Brown hamburger meat, drain grease, add garlic, onions, bell pepper and cook until softened.  Add chili mix and tomato sauce…simmer for at least an hour.  It’s good to make while your beans are cooking!  Watch the video for details!

Pinto Beans and Chili are versatile!

These two dishes can be used to make several meals…not just for burritos.  For example, both pinto beans and chili go great with cornbread!  And remember, feel free to add and experiment and if you do, please return and tell me what additions and new things you tried with these two delicious recipes!
