A Juicy Grilled Cheese Bacon Burger

Grilled Cheese Bacon BurgerI am always looking for new ways to make a burger, whether it be on the grill, my cast iron skillet or on my double burner grill!  When thinking about burgers, I think back to when my family owned a bakeshop and grill.  They made huge burgers… I am sure they were at least 1 pound each, and they were delicious!!  Therefore, when I make a burger… let’s skip that quarter pound and go right into a nice big half pound patty, layered high with cheese, bacon and veggies!  When I bite into a cheese burger, I want a mouth full of flavor and I want it to be JUICY!

So…I combined two of my favorite things, a grilled cheese sandwich and a nice, juicy burger!  It is sort of like a patty melt but different in it’s own little way.  I’ve literally had friends take a bite of this burger, their eyes close with pleasure and they just say, WOW.  YUM!!

Grilled Cheese Bacon Burger Recipe:

2 pounds of 80/20 Ground Beef
Thick Cut Bacon
Lawry’s Season Salt
Salt
Pepper
Fresh Garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 of a Small Red Onion (Diced)
Lettuce
Tomatoes
8 Slices of Bread
16 Slices of Bacon (4 pieces on each burger)
8 Slices of Cheese (Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack or any other you prefer)
*All seasonings are to taste

This recipe makes 4, 1/2 pound burgers!

Prep your ingredients, meaning… chop your onions, mince your garlic cloves, slice your tomatoes and prepare your leafy green lettuce!

Next…fry your bacon!!  Easy enough right?

In a small pan, place 2 Tablespoons of butter and melt,  then throw your onions in and cook until they are translucent and start to brown a little.  Remove from heat.

Place your hamburger meat in a large mixing bowl, add your Lawry’s seasoning, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic and onions.  Mix together (I use my hands).

Divide your hamburger meat into four equal parts, roll into balls and press into patties.

In your cast iron skillet, cook the meat on medium heat.  Approximately 4 to 5 minutes on each side.

Once your patties are finished, butter your bread on one side as you would if you are making grilled cheese sandwiches.  Place one slice of bread, butter side down, in a skillet on medium heat.  Layer your cheese, hamburger patty, bacon and then another layer of cheese and finally your other piece of buttered bread.  Flip carefully once the bottom cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.

Once both sides are nice and toasty, remove from heat, pull apart and add your mustard, mayo or any other condiment you’d like along with you sliced tomatoes and lettuce.  These items will end up being placed between your bacon and meat.

Cut in half and enjoy!!!  It is DELICIOUS!!!
